I have the following situation:

Excel workbook with 2 Sheets or more:

Let’s say Sheet1 for current items, Sheet2 for new items (same structure for both).

After running a job with Sheet1 , I cannot get Sheet2 to appear in the Reader grid view in order to load the new items from this separate sheet. (EG it is empty)

I tried formatting the date another way through the Transformer (“Reformat Date”). It also comes across within Excel as a “General “ format type. Everything else in the new options under Writer comes over with proper formatting within Excel (numbers with commas and decimals, percentages, whole numbers, etc.).

I spent a fair amount of time this weekend working on various Advanced ETL Processor transformations.

The data type options work great for the most part. The biggest issue has been with the limited date formats.

Dates are limited to the European format i.e. dd/mm/yyy rather than also having the option for mm/dd/yyy. It also seem to cause issues when imported into Excel. Zero dates come over as 00/01/1900 and are right aligned which is standard for numbers (conversion makes sense given the dd/mm/yyyy option within ETL). All other values come over left aligned and it appears as though Excel attempts to convert everything to mm/dd/yyyy since there are no numbers greater than “12” within the “mm” part of mm/dd/yyyy. When I check the formatting it shows Custom format dd/mm/yyyy.

I noticed that when I was working within the Enterprise version dealing with negative number that the Reader values look good, the Transformation view looks good, but the Writer view shows positive numbers despite the fact that the value saved to the new file are negative numbers. Everything looks good in the new version of Professional.

I’m having some other issues with the new Professional version. I have two transformations that that for the most part use the same Transformation. I’ve gotten intermediate errors opening the Loan Trans, but have had consistent errors with the LOC Trans (even just opening the file). I’ve deleted the Trans and recreated everything a couple of times with the same issue. No problems with either file while using the Enterprise version.

I'm evaluating your ETL products and I don't seem to be able to define the various data types when a text file is imported (be it a fixed width or delimited file). This is something that can be defined within MS Access, CloverETL, Talend and other ETL programs.

Everything comes in as a String and within the Reader, Show Definition View, the data type can't be changed. I'd like to change the data types in various fields before the file is converted to an Excel Spreadsheet. I don't see options within the various Transformation options.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

For some reason I am not able to load data from some of the tables.
I thought maybe it is related to security settings but everything is fine.

Any suggestions?

I've been working on the trial version for several days now and I'm having a problem getting the writer to provide the output to a directory within my Library (Using Windows 7 Professional).

The writer view seems to read from the path if I place the excel file there. So I thought the path was properly defined, yet when it tries to write to it the an error happens. The log shows that it's trying to write to the proper location.

If I just show the file name in the Writer Excel File tab, the excel file will write, but to the default installation directory.

I'm sure it's a user interface issue, though I've read through the user manual several times and have attempted several different configurations.

I am using a flat file source and loading into 2 target tables. Table 1 is a header table and Table 2 is a detail table and there is a one to many relationship between table 1 and table 2. Table 1 and table 2 both contain a column which will contain a common transaction number that ties them together. I need to produce a line number for table 2 which would start at 1 and increment by 1 for each unique transaction number, so every time the transaction number changes my sequence number needs to begin at 1.

How can I achieve this?

Subject: Generating excel file for different users - by: Holman http://dbsoftlab.com/advanced-etl-processor/5077-generating-excel-file-for-different-users.html#5077 http://dbsoftlab.com/advanced-etl-processor/5077-generating-excel-file-for-different-users.html#5077
Here is my current logic:

Every day for each customer one file is getting generated and they all are in one Package and the file is sent in mail.

Now the client wants that there should not be single Excel file for each user rather there should be single Excel sheet worth one sheet inside that excel in the corresponding user's name.

Thanks,

Subject: Create Multiple Headers, Detail Lines and Footers Into a Flat File - by: Fernando http://dbsoftlab.com/data-warehousing-and-data-integration/5075-create-multiple-headers-detail-lines-and-footers-into-a-flat-file.html#5075 http://dbsoftlab.com/data-warehousing-and-data-integration/5075-create-multiple-headers-detail-lines-and-footers-into-a-flat-file.html#5075
I am reading Invoice Header and Detail tables and want to create a flat file file (pipe delimited) with a Header Record for each Invoice, then create detail lines, then create a footer. Is it possible to implement something like this using your ETL software

The flat file should look like this after running the transformation:

H|001|2012-04-01
D|001|01ITEM_A|25
D|001|02ITEM_B|44
D|001|03ITEM_C|33
F|001|2012-04-01|0003
H|002|2012-04-01
D|002|01ITEM_X|1125
D|002|02ITEM_Y|2344
F|001|2012-04-01|0002
H|003|2012-04-01
D|003|01ITEM_A|2522
F|003|2012-04-01|0001

I am trying to connect to the attached Visual Foxpro 8.0 dbf file with no luck. Have tried to create a connection string that I found online, and also tried to connect as a dbf file.

Please help.]]>

I have a small suggestion.

Open existing data transformation.
Click new.
I can still see the old data in source grid

Apart from that excellent peace of software.

I have just started working with QlikView connector and I am very impressed with it's functionality.
I have a question though, Is there a way to mask the data so all sensitive information will be hidden?

Thank you ,
